Sky Dome Cafe services the food and beverage needs of Outback Astronomy. The cafe closed for renovations in mid 2022 and planned to reopen in 2023. This could not happen as Outback Astronomy had to deal with a power station proposed by Hydrostor on the Flying Doctor mine deposit across the road from our venue, at 1.13km. As this location is very close it introduces new noise and light and other changes to our operating environment. We have had to defend our right to exist, so delayed reopening until early February 2025, as advertised – 11am to 3pm, Sundays and Mondays, until about Easter 2025. Then we will review our position.

Please support our daytime cafe if you are driving into the region. Our menu is necessarily limited as we wait to learn about the NSW Planning decision.

We offer BLT (bacon lettuce tomato) and ham & cheese toasties, beef Guinness pies in sour cream pastry (recipe from season one of MasterChef – delicious), cakes (based on Heart Foundation recipes) and cookies (a little more decadent for a thorough sweet kick). We bake all our pies and cakes onsite. We hope to bake our breads too – but waiting to learn about that determination … it’s a real worry for us as it creates so much uncertainty.

Our barista coffee is wonderful. Milkshakes, chai latte and hot chocolate also available.
